Book 1 Description: Learn to "read" Latter-day Saint temples and other sacred architecture, historic and modern, by understanding the rich language of visual symbolism used in and on them. The author takes his reader on a journey of the visual alphabet and archetypes of this ancient symbolic language established early on by the Prophet Joseph Smith and resurrected again by Pres. Gordon B. Hinckley.
Experience the rise, fall and resurrection of this unique visual language on LDS temples. Begin understanding numbers, shapes and colors from a Biblical and visual perspective, how pillars are connected to covenant-making, and how the 432 celestial spheres on the Nauvoo Temple illustrate the church of the Firstborn, eternal life, and other important doctrinal concepts.
More than 500 stunning full-color photographs of LDS temples and other sacred architecture both ancient and modern from over 40 countries illustrate how decor, space, and archetypal form unfold hidden gospel treasures on temples both ancient and modern. Richly footnoted, those seeking more in their scripture study and temple worship will never look at those buildings or scripture in the same way.
Book 2 Description: Where book 1 introduces the reader to the language of visual symbolism employed on sacred architecture (mostly in LDS temples), book 2 unlocks the rich doctrinal content lying behind the multiple layers of meaning they often possess. Sacred space, sacred time, light & color, the 432 celestial spheres on the Nauvoo Temple are explored in detail in this volume, using visual symbolism as a primary teaching tool. "Reading" this and other temples (using skills acquired in book 1), readers explore its five different star types, three of which center on the life and mission of Jesus Christ. These and other architectural forms appear to have strong doctrinal underpinnings connected to gathering, perfection, calling and election, Christ as the Second Comforter, and eternal life. The rich gospel symbolism of temples and scripture comes alive as readers develop "eyes to see." This book also features over 800 Brinkerhoff photos (which alone are worth the price.)

A Note about pricing:
While the initial price of $99.00 per copy (now reduced to:$92.50) per volume or $185 for the set may sound like a high price to pay for 2 books, the publisher wishes to point out two key points to consider:
#1) On a per-page basis, The Day Star at over 800 pages costs 23 cents a page. By comparison, the 92-page book Sacred Walls [Covenant, 2009] by Gerald Hansen (photography by Val Brinkerhoff) runs over 30 cents a page. The Day Star is, in fact, priced 26% lower.
#2) The Day Star books by their very nature, appeal to a very unique and discriminating class of readers. The books are not likely to be adopted by the "masses" and therefore are printed in very small (indeed ultra-short) custom-print runs using a special press in New York. Most of the $185 goes directly toward actual print costs. For those seeking a lower cost, gather your friends and place a bulk order (any orders in qty 10+ shipping to a single address enjoy a 14% discount or $25 off eg: $150 for the set) . It is the desire of both the author and the publisher to make this book available to all those interested in this extraordinary and rare compilation of unique and timely subject matter.
