This is actually two books combined under one cover. Both Ted and Marne' wrote detailed autobiographies of their young lives around age 26. Both of these independently written stories have been combined to give readers a glimpse into the unpublished stories, events and people who shaped these two remarkable individuals.

Because he was an intensly private man, few people have ever heard or know anything about the early life story of A. Theodore Tuttle. This publication does not seek to interpret nor embellish his remarkable and dramatic life but rather faithfully transmit the exact words that he wrote in his journal at the young age of 26 shortly after arriving in Japan after his tour of duty in the South Pacific as an officer in the Marine Corps.

The wisdom and steadiness that marked his life is evident even at this early period of his life. After seeing the hellishness of war close-up in his experience on Iwo Jima and suffering phyically from that experience, he always said the true heroes were those who did not return from the terrible conflict.

Even after returning from the War, with typical modesty, he rarely spoke of the experience and only reluctantly related the ?brush with fame? that found him playing a key role in the flag-raising on Mt Suribachi, that fateful day. The picture that immortalized that event went on to fame and served to raise the hearts of a war-weary nation at a critical time in her history.

Ted & Marne? Tuttle never sought fame nor fortune, their one desire was to raise their family in the nurture of the Lord while serving their fellow man. The Almighty found ways of using this blessed couple and throughout the years thousands of lives have been blessed by their humble and faithful lives of service.
