This is the story of my first-grade Christmas, the year my mother told me we weren't going to have Christmas, because we couldn't afford it. This is the story of her pain and my hope, and how it all turned out.

It is a reminder that no matter how bad things get, there are pearls along the way, bits of hope and light in an otherwise dark world. It is a reminder that we get what we choose to focus on—the dark or the light, the sorrow of the joy.
